My older sister Heather is pregnant and she is due in October. Since I am throwing her baby shower I had to make the invites. I would have to say Heather + I had differen't tastes. Not that she doesn't like the stuff I make...but I wanted to make invitations that would be something she would really like.

I got the pretty blank blue cards (and envelopes) at the craft store. Then i just cut out little clouds, punched holes for their eyes, drew mouths and raindrops with pencil. I then punched little holes in the scallops, and printed out the inside text from the computer onto brown paper.
I then cut the edges of that with those scissors and punched the tiny holes yet again around the edge of that. I got some ribbon to tie around the front of the cards, and now they are done!

Heather came over today and seemed to like them, thankfully! Now I have to plan all the games and food. I am exciting about cooking alkl kinds of fun stuff, but games? ugh haha....

and very off subject, look at this tape measure that I got from the yarn shop the other day!
birds of a feather...

So I used to have this crazy idea that I would make 100 stuffed birds in 100 days. I think I never made it past bird #35! Every now and then when going through a box in the art room I will come across a bird from this project. Yesterday I found these. The pink bird above was made from the hideous furry pink bathrobe that I had gotten at a free yardsale. It was nice and big, the kind of robe that goes all the way down to floor! I ended up using that robe to make all kinds of pink furry plushies.

These red birds were from when I was experimenting with using stencils to silk-screen. I would cut my design out of a transparency and then tape it to a screen. It worked out ok. I used to have a big group of these birds hanging above my computer desk at our old house. I am going to hang these last two in the kitchen.

I have lots to do today, including going to pick up my art from the show last weekend. It will be interesting to find out if anything sold, but I kind of doubt it. When I was there it looked like everything was still in place, so if any did..it will be a nice surprise. Otherwise I will be adding the paintings to my site.

It has been so hot + humid (the humid is really what gets ya) these past few days that its unbearable to play outside. Last night I took the kids to the indooor playground. Its not as big as places like Kiddin' Around, and Discovery Zone (does anyone still have these places? they were awesome but both of ours closed down years ago) Basically at this indoor playrground adults are not allowed to go in and play with the kids (which sucks) And at the other two I mentioned, not only were they huge, they encouraged you to get in there and play. They had tubes, ball pits, etc. Lots of fun to be had.

So I sat and crocheted while the kids ran through tunnels and down the slides. We spent a few good hours there. Before we went I had stopped in to see a local yarn shop that I have never been in, and WOW! It is filled with yarn. Probably about 5 rooms total. It was almost too much yarn (is there really such a thing?)
alright...now off to work

Its so funny because my nine year old still doesn't really care anything about clothes (and his cousin of the same age seems to really care) They go to different schools, so that might have some effect? He did say he wanted to buy a studded belt, and he has gotten into music this summer. Its so weird how they grow up so fast!

Lots going on, and lots of new goodies in the works. I have to finish up five wholesale orders and then you will start to see some new goodies being posted here.

ETA: I forgot to say that you can read an interview of me at the Crochet Lab, check the back issues though for great interviews of Lexi Pluckyfluff, and Ana anacam :) http://crochetlab.com/crochetlabreport_currentissue/current.htm
Haha, my husband and I always call people stuff like that...Like Tina Seamonster, Susie Boygirlparty, and Alison WonderlandQ, otherwise Tom is always like "wait who?"

Its a big scrapbook I made probably three or four years ago. I am not into the type of scrapbooks made with all the cutesy cut outs, and do-dads that you can find at a scrapbook store (not that there is anything wrong with those) so my images + backgrounds mostly came from origami paper and comic books that I got from the .25 bin.

I just made color copies of all of our photos, cut them out, and used spray glue to adhere them all in. I swear that spray glue is crazy! After an hour or so of using it and you feel like your boogers are glued to the sides of your nose (probably really bad for you too)

Tom hates having his picture posted online (I dont know why though because he is so very cute!) So I made the photos small, hope you can still kind of get an idea of how the book looks. Its really really thick.

See how cute tom is! Man, I wish he'd let me take more photos of him. You would be amazed by the numbe rof photos I have of his hand (as in when he puts it up real fast in front of his face!)
Oh and see my goofy gaze of happiness? Haha its when we were up in Maine and found Pick-M-Ups. I know I have talked about these before, so i will try not to bore you. They don't sell them down here, and I grew up in New England....eating them! So whenever we go north we go on a mini cruisade to find a couple boxes to take home. This photo was actually the first time Tom tried them. He is not a fan...mmmm we call them flakey puffs!
After I had this book filled I started another one, now I need to make a third one! Oh and in one of these books is the best stupid looking picture of me looking up all lovey dovey at John Travolta...haha if I find it, I will be sure and post it!

We went out for a bit, them stopped at the Gallery and I took some pictures while it was still empty.

This was the back of the postcard for the show, kind of scary I know!

I would say most of the items displayed were t-shirts and clothing (which made sense since it was suppose to be a "fashion" art show. But I got to see some paintings by one of the girls who shares the space. Maybe some of you remember me talking about them before. Anyhow she had some new stuff that I really enjoyed, but didn't get to take a photo of.

See the purse on the end, that looks like a fuzzy lamb? That one was my favorite, but was not for sale..haha figures!

After I left Katie and Chris, I drove back to Hagerstown to hang out with Tom until he got off of work. Its always funny to sit around the tattoo shop with the guys there....I always say "I cant belive this is what you call work" Because seriously its like a bunch of guys all joking around.

Then Tom and I drove back to Frederick so he could see the show. There was a lot of people there then, and some very loud music. I felt like my stuff kind of stuck out like a sore thumb among the other artwork there. My stuff was like cartoon network! I always feel akward at stuff like this. I've never felt comfortable calling myself an "artist", let alone use terms like "my piece" to describe something I have made. So tom and I spent most of the time together near the back just people watching, whispering, and stealing kisses. Ahh well it was still fun to go and see everything.

I took her and my mom out for lunch. Then we went through some old boxes at my parents house. We found Noelle's old teenage diary and had a good laugh reading it out loud. I've lost most of my teen day diaries during moves, etc. However, I still have some that I kept from about 6-8 years ago and they sure are strange to read. Its funny the things that consume and control us when we are young and so passionate! Drama-rama :)

Its been so hot and humid lately (this is the part where I wonder why I stay in this highly humid area?) I worked late into the night on my donut doll order last night, and still wasn't able to finish them. Its amazing how the details seem to take so much time! I am going to go finish them up now while the boys and I lay around and watch Ghost Busters (I could not resist the box set I saw the other day) I remember I saw it in the theater when I was my son's age. I think all three of us are ready for a nap after the busy day.

The mystery of the mug is revealed! Thanks for all the comments, they had me laughing! I guess it wouldn't have been much of a mystery if I actually did a little tiny bit of work (oh say checking the bottom of the mug?) See it does say Kidney, and look the "yello" thing over his nose area was not his other hand! His other hand is the handle...ohhhh!

I didn't have plans to drink my morning coffee from this Kidney (although I dont feel like that would be a problem for me) But I had intended him to house my pens + pencils. Since Msiter Kidney there is used to sifting waste out of blood...im sure the task of holding my writing utensils will be a delightful one!

Looks like I am not the only one looking forward to snow around here. I haven't quite figured out what the mug guy is suppose to be, some sort of vegetable I assume, or a peanut with a long nose? hmm. The crocheted wolf and piggie were at another shop. It seems the other two pigs must have run off, or perhaps the wolf + pig ran away together...4-eva!

I like the wolf and pig because they reminded me of my grandmother (on my dad's side) She had two big rooms filled with dolls and plush that she had knit/crocheted/or sewn. To a kid, those rooms were like a wonderland! I remember she had knit smurf dolls!

Then it also reminds me of my great grandmother (on my moms side) who had a crocheted black poodle doll that had been crocheted over a glass bottle. Man, its no wonder I had an odd fondness for yarn made plush.

I got these clowns (that came all together) because of their wonderful creepiness! It wasn't as crowded as it has been in the past (thankfully) I think it might be because one of the dolphins recently had a calf, and so the dolphin show is cancelled for awhile.

My most favorite thing was the sea anemone tank. It was so beautiful (the photo does not do it justice) I could have sat and stared at it for hours. The colors were amazing! It makes me want to crochet anemones and hang them all over the art room ceiling.

Big cowl neck sweater and matching sweater-skirt. I figured with a bit of green dye the textured yarn would make great broccoli dolls. I started frogging it this afternoon. Today for lunch I made tortellini soup. You just make homemade vegetable soup and add in frozen, fresh, or shelf (seriously they sell bags on the shelf in the pasta section, they scare me a little, make me have visions of dried cheese!) tortellini once the soup is almost ready. Let the torts cook for about ten minutes until tender, and then serve. Very tasty! I also made cheese straws (which are just real skinny rolls with cheese sprinkled on before cooking)

Oh instructions for frogging a sweater can be found at Ashley's website http://www.neauveau.com/recycledyarn.html

♥ homemade slurpees (we are making these later today!)
♥ postcards from another country
♥ metallic thread

All kinds of rooms, like a glow in the dark room, an electronic room, etc. They had one room made into a little house with fake food and dress up clothes (notice me wearing my bonnet waiting for my love to return from the war!) They even had an arts and craft room where you could make anything you wanted. The room had amazing kid art hanging up all over it...lots of glitter and glue :)

Then we went out to lunch at the Dog House which actually had veggie hot-dogs! We spent some time visiting them museums there--ahem, the Hall of Presidents. A wax museum which has each president talk a little bit about themselves. It was needless to say Very Very boring! Haha, you could see the boredom in everyone's eyes, not just us. Look at the dark photo of Tom + Big K, don't they look thrilled?

I kept thinking (while looking around at all the bored people) We each actually paid $6.95 to be this bored! Ha, we willingly forked over money for that. The wax figures were fun, but having to sit and listen to them talk was not. It took about an hour, and then we went and got gelati...my summer has been bug bites + gelati!

We went back home for a bit then headed about an hour and a half away to Comlumbia PA ---to see Charlie And The Chocolate Factory at the drive-in there. It is a double feature (and only like $7.00 for adults) so you also got to see Fantastic For free. Tom got a bunch of better photos on his camera (like the cool snack bar etc)

We brought blankets and spread them out in the back, it was so much fun! Now, there is a drive-in that is only 30 miles from us, but its only open on the weekends. This one is open every single day! If you want to find local drive-ins this website is a big help http://www.drive-ins.com/ Just use the search function and put in your zipcode. I really liked the movie, but I feel like I can't compare it to the old one. When I read an article on the new movie--Tim Burton had said he wasn't trying to re-make the old movie, but rather offer his version of the book..which is kind of how I see it. Roald Dahl is amazing, so any movie made from his books would be fun! I'd like to see a live action version of The BFG (my favorite Roald Dahl book ever!) We have the cartoon movie they made on VHS (I dont think it was ever released to dvd) But with the things they can do know with computers...making the giants and little sophie would be a breeze!

deadlines + crocheted hats..

While I have been spinning yarn, I haven't been able to put any of it up for sale, because I need it to make hats for a show in August (which the deadline is the end of this month for getting my stuff over there) I got two hats done (and the balls of yarn is what I have leftover) This will kind of give you an idea of how much a typical skein of my yarn is.

Seems like all the deadlines for things tend to be at the same time! haha..

yesterdays lunch...pizza that we made on pocket-less pita bread (so good) with homemade pizza sauce, sour granny smith apples + peanutbutter...yum!

all the different hair colors I have had this year, the most current is the last picture. The pink had faded to an almost white, and I had some dark brown roots peeking out :) So I went for brown for now. I am sure I will change it again in a few weeks or so. I can't stick with one color.

Last night was a lot of fun, we had dinner with some old friends --then went over to Sean + Amandas house. Lots of fun and catching up was done!

Some of these friends I have known since they were teenagers, and every now and then we get together. It is funny to see how they grow and change, and become adults.

These blue fishnets used to not fit, and now they fit me perfectly (maybe I am the incredible shrinking woman--I loved that movie!) Yesterday the sky was bright blue (today its more of a grey) and yesterday is was so breezy that it sort of felt like the begining of fall (instead of the middle of summer)

These of course are all sad + burnt. Why are they sad you ask? Well because they are burnt they fear that soon the garbage bin will be their home...what they don't know is that some people *love* burnt toast! Silly toasties!

So I have started Christmas shopping online, yep you heard me right..haha. Christmas time is always super busy for me (with lots of orders + shows) So since I actually enjoy xmas shopping, and am hoping to get some really neat gifts this year I have started already! Most of my shopping is done online, where I can find cool handcrafted items. See my plush friends above, can you tell which are the two new additions? #1 is the furry tooth doll (far right) He comes from http://www.angrytooth.com and I love his pink cheeks! #2 is the anatomy doll from http://www.octobereffigies.com (she's kind of laying on top of the tooth) I can't belive the beautiful dolls that Kerry makes. They are amazing! I got her as a Christmas gift for tom, but already gave it to him (I'm so bad at that!)You can also see some of the other plush goodness I have aquired over the past year (like sprinkles the ice cream from Jenny http://www.jennyharada.com) and

On the second floor of our house we have a big long hallway. Well big K took these thin matteresses that we keep (for when people sleep over) and a bunch of pillows and blankets and made this long tunnel like fort in the hallway. I have to crawl through it any time I want to go into or leave the artroom, and it is awesome! Haha, I kind of just want to lay inside it and sleep for awhile. Needless to say it is keeping both kids rather preoccupied playing with it.

This morning Little B painted while I made buttons. He is in love with watercolor paint books (you know like coloring books but they come with paint) and its nice because its a lot less messy then when he paints with the acrylics. I got so many buttons done this morning which was great! Now I am cutting out donut dolls while the kids crawl back and forth through the "fort of doom!!"

Sometimes I think its fun to make up odd stuff for lunch. Like yesterday we had circle PB+J's (because circles taste so good, duh!) Cheese blocks with pretzel handles, strawberry/banana cabobs, and carrot shreds instead of sticks (sticks still make me worry with my two year old about choking, and I dont care if that makes me sound like a freak, haha...but come on--who could choke on a shred?) Besides the shreds look much more fun then boring sticks!

Today my mom dragged me kicking + screaming (ok so not really) thrift shopping. She promised me a big church yardsale (which turned out to be a couple of weeks from now. But we didn't find out until we arrived at the church and I say "Uhh, mom what date is that yardsale") So I took her to Chambersburg + Gettysburg PA. We found a new art gallery that opened, it was very nice. I talked to the lady and gave her my card. She asked me to bring by some stuff next week. Then we found a fiber + yarn shop which was quite dreamy. I talked to that lady too, gave her a yarn card, and she wants me to being in some drop spindle zines. And..and I realized that even though I am always saying I am so shy, maybe I am not so much anymore.
This kind of makes me excited, because I felt like my shyness would sometimes make me appear snobby, but since I have been doign shows/meeting and talking to people this way. I have noticed myself being able to activly approach and talk to people like a normal human being! it is quite amazing.

Check out my goodies, notice a clown theme---ohh creepy! Sorry about the bad quality picture, but this is what you get when I take photos at 11:30 PM.

My most favorite purchase of the day, this absolutly absurd hat! It is pink and covered with pink mums, and has a matching pink bow. I wore it the whole time I drove, which is even more comical considering it doesn't fit on my big head (and you see I only have a big head because I have such a big smart brain) It is a bit small, so if I pull it down it still doesn't fit properly, and looks even more ridiculous---which in turn makes me love it all the more. I think this Halloween I am going to be a damn cute old lady! I should go to bed now (I get loopy, silly + quite goofy when I am feeling tired) But I have mouds of work to finish---so instead I am singing along to the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack and sewing nurse dolls...oh!

It has been fun checking out Kristen's blog and seeing all the new plush that is coming in for the show http://www.schmancytoys.blogspot.com/ Its going to be such a fun show! If anyone on my friend's list is going, please take lots of photos to share!

I made a huge ice cream cone (some of you may remember) and then I made a tiny tiny toilet paper doll (this is about 1/4 the size of the toilet paper dolls I sell.

I have to send one other plushie, so I am thinking about the radio girl, or my tree doll. Not sure, but I am going to go mail them today.

A couple weeks ago I decided to stop at a store called The Educational store. I was sure they would have all kinds of fun stuff (even though big K started complaining when he read the name) I assured him he would change his mind once inside, and change it he did. The place was not only filled with some of the coolest toys ever. (See the crystal garden above) But also has cool teacher stuff. I got scratch and sniff cookie/cake stickers. Notepads that were food with faces (apples with smiley faces, a pencil pad with a big grin) Anyone who has gotten a package from me in the past few weeks might have noticed some of those goodies in their package.

Anyway, my point being---check out the educational (or teacher) shops in your area. They are treasure troves of goodness!

Also I thought I would share this little coffee tip (that I am sure lots of other people do, but just incase) Well every morning we make coffee, and we usually make 5 cups worth (this fills tom + my mug perfectly) Well every now and then I make a full pot, then save the extra coffee in the fridge for later. Then that night I use the cold coffee to make coffee drinks in our blender. I know maybe it seems stupid for me to mention this (and a few people might be saying "umm, well ya" But I used to never do this, and then we would want blended coffee drinks and have such a hard time because the coffee would be so hot/melt the ice...not good. And I am usually far too lazy to get out the expresso maker and use that. So yeah, I thought maybe this tip might be good for someone, haha

</lj>

♥ cold coffee drinks (homemade!)
♥ when someone calls you a "cake face" (amanda!)
♥ shaggy pink + orange faux fur
