After posting my fabric stash (err..mountain) it got me thinking about how all this lovely fabric is just sitting around waiting to be made into something. I started brainstorming some things I could make for my house, pillows, cushions, fabric containers, a zine rack...
So today while my little boy napped (it must be fate--this kid never naps!) I worked on a tuffet for him. It was my first time making piping, and I loved it. Something so satisfying about a project that uses piping, it just looks so...complete! The tuffet isn't quite down. I plan to pick up some of those buttons you cover in fabric tonight, to put four on each side. But it is the perfect size for my two year old to get his whole little body on top of. And it was a lot easier to make then I had imagined in my head. So I plan to make more tuffets, some bigger. They will add extra seating to my livingroom, where right now we have a loveseat and a computer chair. I was to make a big round one! The best part is I plan to use ALL fabric from my stash.
After reading Hillary's journal http://www.weewonderfuls.com she has me itching to try quilting again. I have never been good at quilting, but my mom is an amazing quilter. Sometimes I think it's because I am too impatient, or just too messy. For goodness sakes your suppose to iron the little square seams after you sew them together. But still, the temptation to create a beautiful quilt is still there...lurking. So maybe one day I will sit down and just do it. Patiently and slowly.
The kids and I spent hours at the library yesterday. I love our local library because the kid's section is four big rooms painted in bright cheerful colors, FILLED with books, toys, comfy kid sized couches, and a big wooden train set. My kids love it! The adult section is pretty slim pickings, but I don't mind sittingand looking through all the kid books. Although I did pick up a book called KnitLit. It is a compilation book of stories relating to knitting and fiber arts. I really like it so far.
After the library we had to go pick up huge florcesent bulbs for our kitchen light that had burnt out. I spotted these glass bottles in the kitchen section and had to get them. They were meant to hold spices..im thinking of using them for glitter, and other do dads.

Did you stuffed it and sewed all up or it has a sort of closure? I want to try piping and maybe a pillow could be a good starting project!

Yeah, BUT even though you have to iron those seams when doing quilts...you can pick up one of those TINY little irons & use that! It's REALLLLLLY easy them!

Ive seen those irons, the bad part is...i just feel too lazy to plug in and iron the whole thing, just seems so tedious and time consuming, haha

and those bottles...what store did you find those in?? I buy my spices at an Amish store and the plastic containers they use are cheap and ugly-I'd love to transfer the spices into cool bottles like those-I'm thinking i could make funky collaged labels for them!!!
February 11 2005, 00:24:07 UTC 7 years ago
thye were cheap like $1 for the little ones and $1.50 for the bigger
