A total NON-crafty day...
This morning I woke up still feeling a little dizzy...both my boys were home today because of teacher conferences. So we went out to the used bookstore, and then on the way home I saw a scrap booking store. I wanted to stop and see if they had a one inch hole punch because my old one had gotten jammed shut from so much use! Sure enough they did, and they also had some of the best scrap booking paper I have ever seen. Now personally I am not into scrap books, well not the traditional type of scrap books that come to mind anyways. Our photo scrap book is a huge collage of photographs, cut outs from comic books and magazines, origami paper and drawings. So I could not believe my eyes when i saw all this great paper! Not cutesy-or themed at all (of course they had that stuff too) But anyways I bought some.

We also stopped at a store called Ten Thousand Villages, which is non profit and fair trade. I got these great woven stars, which I also bought last year..I love them!

The other night when my husband came home from work, he brought me the coolest present---a body! He had gotten the body, and also a leg from someone he had tattooed, I guess as a tip. She may not have a head or legs, but I think she is wonderful!

Now since I spent my entire day not working, I am going to go spin yarn, so i can finally get the shop updated..Im sorry to anyone who may of been waiting!

wow those stars are amazing! if i saw those around boston i would definitely scoop up a bunch. they're paper right?

also, if you like fun paper, if you get a chance the next time you're in boston you should go to this store called the paper source, it's wonderful they have every paper you could ever want practically and lots of other fun stuff too. it's the best, when i was taking bookbinding courses i spent practically all my money there!

glad you had a fruitful day :)

oh man, I love ten thousand villages. one of the math professors here is part owner of one nearby and they occasionally have sales on my campus. I have this set of black elephants that I just love, and a friend got me an elephant hand puppet from there as a gift. it's so nice and hand woven from this really fine straw. love!

We have a place in Columbus OH called the Flower Factory, they have plastic torsos for ~$8, but you need a tax/business license to get in. When we had our shop we got some used store fixtures at a place that specialized in getting fixtures from stores that had remodeled or gone out of business, got great deals on our display cases as well as a few upper bodies. Sometimes your local department store will have sales, too, I got a few legs that way as well as a ton of old shopping bags they no longer wanted to use. Or if you have a friend who has a shop, or any funky boutiques maybe you could ask to borrow one of their display mannequins, or a local theatre/college could have stuff in their prop department.....

Wow 14! That's awesome, this is my first mannequin, but I do have a cool wire dress form that I found at a yardsale a few years back. I wish i lived close to you because you are so talented! I'd just like to hang out and soak up your creative vibes!
I wish i had more friends locally who were into making stuff with their hands...

And those stars look yummy-wonder if we could find instructions on how to make them?? They would look divine on my tree-we don't have any of those cool stores here in the sticks.
The manny is super cool-hubby scored big points with that treasure! I am coveting a hot pink head in the back room of the Thrift shop i volunteer at-so cool, covered in a velvety fabric-still trying to sweet talk the manager into selling it to me!

Let me get this straight....

You were at Ten Thousand Villages (about 6 minutes from my house) and the scrapbooking store, which I'm assuming was Scrapmania because it's the only one *I* know of in town (about 3 minutes from my house - I've *walked* there, for crying out loud!) and you didn't pop in for a "Hey, how you doing?"?!?!? You suck, Miss Heidi!

I have a body, too. It's a man body. I've had it for like 9 years - Ryan bought it from some store that was going out of business and selling all of their fixtures. He goes by the simple name of "Man." One night I got really messed up and painted him. Man is now silver with a pink crotch and pink handprints on his butt. Maybe if we got Man and your body together, they'd make cute little baby bodies, like the headless ones you see at the Gap.

Hey, check out www.mydaughterswish.com for some really nice papers. Tons of inspiration there, too, in the gallery. I've got a bunch of my pages and stuff posted, but I haven't updated in forever (my username is playboy_mommy). But anyway....they're got lots of yummy papers. Oh, and there's a scrapbooking store in Frederick, right in the shopping center off of 7th street where Taco Bell is. They're got a great selection of cool papers there, too. FYI.

You know you would think that I get a new tattoo everyday, but honestly with two kids...im lucky if I get a new tattoo every six months, haha but it is nice to get freebies and be able to sit on my couch and get tattooed :) but then again he hates tattooing me because he is so critical of his work and then of course he has to look at it all the time :)
