This yarn is an ode to Cyndi Lauper. It reminds me of her fluffy tulle skirts, and crazy colored hair. My dad bought her record for me when I was little, and I remember lip syncing to all her songs, and wishing I would grow up the be just like her. I think I was around the same age when I told my parents that I wanted to have big boobs like Dolly Parton when I grew up. This request always seemed to get a lot of laughs, and therefor prompted me to repeat my desire in front of relatives.

This yarn is a huge mixture of color. I gathered small sections of dyed fiber from all of my different piles and randomly added them in.

Here is some other yarn I spun. The little citrus ball was actually quite a nice huge ball of yarn....until I tried to ply it with orange thread. I have not had any luck with plying, and the yarn ends up in a big tangle. So this is what I have untangled so far. I actually had to cut the yarn at one point, so I will now have two smaller balls. Maybe I should do a little research on plying before I give it another go!

I also took this photograph of my stack of fabric from yesterday, just because I love all the colors, and it might inspire me with choosing colors for yarn. I ended up with lots of pinks + oranges, not sure why though. I exspecially love the thin striped pink + darker pink fabric. its a stretchy knit fabric, and I want to use some to make a pair of thigh high tights for myself.

Last night I was reading a book out loud to my kids and it talked about riding on a train. It got me thinking about how lovely it would be to take a trip via train next time. Maybe even one of those overnight trains. So we could board in the evening, sleep and then wake up at our destination. I am going to go look into it now. We have been meaning to visit New Orleans soon, maybe this would be an ideal way to go? I have not been on a train since I was very young, so maybe I am romanticizing it.

I love riding on the train so much- I did find it took forever when I took the train from LA to Oakland last spring- but it was so pretty I didn't mind at all- i'm just used to trains that go a little faster than the American ones do. I would 100% recommend it- I plan to one day have enough money to be able to take three months off to fly over to the states and buy a three month rail pass and spend the time travelling around visiting people...I am totally in love with that idea!

The way I've had luck with plying is to ply the opposite way of the twist, works a lot better that way. Have you tried it? It's like if the twist is twisting left, then ply right. Do i even make sense? lol :)

I LOVE the tulle yarn! Thats such a good idea! I just posted my first real spun yarn to my LJ. What kind of wheel do you have? I'm just using a drop spindle but if I keep loving spinning as much as this I may invest in a wheel.

I love trains. I think its a nice way to see the countryside on the way to your destination.

this is gonna sound like its coming out of nowhere. but heidi how do you get so much done? i know you don't watch tv. which would probably help me. but i find i have so many ideas and works in progress that i am overwhelmed and have no clue where to start or what to do.. so then i do nothing and feel guilty later..hehe how can you be so productive.

haha, well I don't know---I just try and stay motivated, and I know sometimes it's hard, but I enjoy making stuff, so usually I want to. As i'm sure you've noticed though I switch around projects a lot, otherwise I would get bored :)

If you take the train to New Orleans, you can ride the Amtrak Crescent- it's one of the oldest sleeper car routes still in service, and apparently it's the way to ride in style. Scott Miller and the Commonwealth wrote a song about it, and it makes me want to ride the rails!

You did get alot of great fabric for really good prices. I can't wait to try making that robot costume and quilt. Oh guess how much of that silver material was on that roll....2 1/3 yards. Can you beleive that, I hope it is enough. Skyler is a skinny boy so it should be fine. Hahaha.

I would love to sleep on a train and awake at my destination. Trains are so much fun. You guys always have fun vacations.

Love ya tons~Heather
