oh you crafty bastard! [Oct. 3rd, 2004|03:43 pm]

So the Crafty Bastard's show was yesterday, and the day could not have been any better! The night before I dropped off the kidlets with my mom and went to meet my lovely friend Katie for some coffee. We spent a few hours sitting around talking and drinking gingerbread coffee (mmm just another reminder that is is fall!) We meet Thomas at work, and headed home. We did not end up going to sleep until 1am, and even then I tossed and turned a lot. Between nervousness and missing the kids, i did not sleep well at all.
The next morning we woke up bright and early (actually is was very dark out still) and as I got out of bed I stepped onto the side (which was cracked) of an empty laundry basket...it was painful :)
We all got up and ready in a matter of 15 minutes...thankful that we were all very *no fuss* people who could get ready so quickly! I had packed our lunch the night before, and showered the night before as well...like a responsible adult, haha
So we headed out--We arrived a little after 7am, and saw Tina http://www.ilikeseamonsters.com She gave me a lovely hug and we talked for a bit about the exciting day ahead of us. Lots of people had brought tents (me too) and the sky looked quite overcast. We got to our spot, and it turns out the market was a gravel lined fenced in lot. The gravel made it hard to pull the trashcan O' goodies, but we made it okay. Once we got to our spot we realized there was not a table, or chairs..Turns out they had not arrived yet. So like the other crafty bastard's we stood around for awhile talking and trying to sit on the painful gravel. Luckily the tables-followed by chairs arrived and we were able to get everything set up. So i take out my camera (and batteries that had been charging all night long) and get ready to snap a pic. Just as I hit the button the light flashes that the battery is dead and the camera turns off! I think I grabbed the wrong batteries, and I am so sad! (Well just a few minutes ago as I am going through my pics to update the shop...I see it ONE lone picture of the table, turns out I snapped it quickly enough!)

That is cute little Katie jumping around behind the table....As soon as Tom saw the camera coem out, he ran away! On the front left hand corner was a rack I used to hold all my yarn. I think the fact that it was hanging (rather then balled up) confused a lot of people. Jodi from http://www.so-charmed.com bought a skein of yarn to wear around her neck...like a scarf/necklace sort of thing. Actually it looked quite lovely when she tried it on! How exciting! I heard another girl say to her friend while pulling her away from the yarn "You can't use it, its handspun!" Haha, as if handspun yarn is something from outerspace? Haha I still don't understand what she meant, but I wished I could have stopped her and explained..

Some of my favorite parts of the day were hearing a girl pick up a cupcake doll and say "It just makes me happy!" I love selling my stuff in public, because it means I get to see the reactions right away, i get to hear the comments, giggles, and everything else. One couple stood and read Soap out loud---using animated voices, it was great, Katie and I were even laughing at the story. I got an invite to sell my stuff at a gallery in DC and I think I will do it! I got to meet Ben from http://www.bendependent.com and trade for some of his comics. I wanted to go back and buy one of his tshirts, but at 4:30 (the show ended at 5) it started to rain! I also got to meet Roxy http://www.livejournal.com/users/x___dollface/ And it was cute because the first time she came over to my table I thought "Is that Roxy?" but i was too shy to ask. Luckily she came back, and introduced herself...what a sweetie! I got to meet her sister Amber too, I wished we could have talked more, but it was so crowded.

I did take some time to walk around with Katie while Tom held down the fort.
